It was 38 students, four counselors, two days and one memorable trip.
Thanks to the generosity of the Macquarie Group Foundation, DDC juniors and seniors experienced an overnight college tour on October 3rd and 4th that included campus visits to Syracuse University, Hamilton College, SUNY Oneonta, and Utica College. New York State schools were targeted since NYS Tuition Assistance Program makes them cost effective choices. Students met admissions officers and spoke to first-generation undergraduates.
“I had never considered upstate before and now I have a dream school” said Bushra, a senior who loved the close community at Hamilton. While Anna, a junior “can now see herself at Syracuse”. The trip also encouraged students to continue working hard. “Going to college is now my goal, and it will allow me to grow up and seeing the real world” offered Alexis.
College trips are essential for students to explore educational opportunities and discover the possibilities for their own futures. The up-close exposure to a variety of college campuses inspires student achievement and goal-setting. Each year DDC takes these trips to ensure our students enter the college application process with as much knowledge as possible and can make decisions that will foster their success.
