The Double Discovery Center at Columbia University is one of the nation’s oldest federally funded educational programs to assist first-generation college bound students from low income communities. It continues to this day in empowering the youth of Harlem and Washington Heights to achieve success in and out of the classroom with holistic academic and personal counseling.
DDC accepts students who are first-generation and/or meet low income Federal guidelines; have a school attendance rate of at least 90%; and attend a DDC partner school OR live in the Morningside, Manhattanville, Harlem, or Washington Heights areas.
The Double Discovery Center Fall & Spring hours of operation are:
Monday: By Appointment Only
Tuesday thru Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Summer hours of operation are:
Monday thru Thursday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Because Double Discovery is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, federal guidelines require that all families submit proof of eligibility. Please click on this link to review financial guidelines.
To maximize students’ access to the full range of DDC opportunities and program activities, applications for the fall semester are due mid-September and for the spring semester by mid-January.
No. The SAT course is only available to students who are enrolled in the program and who participate in DDC’s other program activities. DDC believes in the holistic preparation for college-bound students and emphasizes healthy habits that go beyond test scores.
No. Summer Academy and our other summer programming is only available to students who are enrolled in the program and who participate in DDC’s other program activities. DDC believes in the holistic preparation for college-bound students and emphasizes healthy habits that go beyond test scores.
No. While we highly value involvement from family and the community, in order to help ensure the safety of students, staff, volunteers and those on campus, all activities, academic courses, seminars, special programming, workshops and University facilities are only available to current students enrolled in the program.
