Work With Us

At The Double Discovery Center, there are a multitude of ways to support New York City students. We offer volunteer opportunities for community members, paid and unpaid opportunities for Columbia and Barnard students, and full-time staff positions.

Volunteer

For nearly 60 years, our program has been successfully rooted in mutual education—in double discovery. Being a volunteer at DDC means using your skills to help first generation college-bound students from under-resourced communities achieve their aspirations. In the process, you’ll learn from their unique perspectives and experiences as New York City students.

If you are interested in making a difference in a young person’s life, creating community-wide change, and building life-long relationships, DDC is the place for you. As little as 2 hours a week will make a difference in our students’ lives and in yours!

Typical volunteer services include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as a teaching assistant
  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Small group tutoring
  • College and career mentoring
  • Field trips, celebrations, and community building events
  • Presentation, interview, and communication skills building workshops
  • Office, administrative, or fund development support

Employment Opportunities

The Double Discovery Center is home to a dynamic team of educators, counselors, leaders, and changemakers. We believe holistic and collaborative support can empower our community youth to, through, and beyond college. We fulfill this mission by hiring passionate professionals who share our mission.
